WateringWatering is an extremely important aspect in gardening and lawn caring. Even a little carelessness could spoil the whole lot of efforts invested in bringing up a garden or a lawn. There are several aspects of watering and its related techniques and methods specifically designed for particular types of gardens or lawns. However, four thumb-rules are equally applicable in every situation. These thumb -rules are very general in nature and many of you must be aware of them but it is always better to keep them reminding once and again.

Thumb Rule-1:  Deep watering for once is hundred times better than light watering for several times.”

Thus thumb-rule does not need much explanation .It is clear in itself and applicable universally in every case. Deep watering in itself is much more advantageous for plants, grasses, and their roots specifically. It is the real secret of healthy growth.

Thumb Rule-2: “An inch of water every week for lawns”

Lawns need more space and watering need to be well planned here. Unless specifically required all lawns in general require almost an inch of watering every week. However, much depends on the weather and climatic conditions. In extremely hot climatic conditions, the frequency may be reduced up to two times a week but the level of watering would remain the same.

Thumb Rule -3: “The deeper the better”.

Depth of watering is an important aspect. Normally a depth of 5-6 inches would be sufficient. Watering up to this depth would further help in deeper and healthier root development. Deep watering has an added advantage. You can increase the number of days or the period between two successive watering up to this recommended depth.

Conserve waterThumb Rule -4: Do not waste water. It is precious.”

You must have proper assessment of sufficient watering levels. Near to the accurate measurement of water is extremely important. You should always avoid water running off the lawn or garden. Stop watering well before this stage arrives. While watering your lawn or garden you should select your own measuring objects. After all water is so precious for all of us and we must use it wisely.

I am sure these four thumb-rules will help you developing a great lawn and a lovely garden.
