Let us focus on health today. Your health largely depends on what type of food items you consume every day. It is obvious that you cannot grow everything in your garden. However, you can grow some healthy food providing plants at least.Perhaps my experience of gardening for years together could save you wasting efforts and energy both. Today I am not referring to a single plant. Instead, I would advise you to grow few plants belonging to a specific group that is extremely helpful in keeping you healthy and fit.
These are in fact small plants and hardly need much space in your garden or home. They are cheap and tasty and you can grow them with no difficulty. You do not have to water the plants much as well. These plants and their products are rich sources of vitamin A and vitamin B. Leaves specifically are good source of vitamin C. Dietary fibre, proteins, and enzymes will benefit you if you include them in your food. Being light and easily digestible, you will certainly like them.
I am referring to the “sprouts” today. There is no complexity involved in growing sprouts in your garden. You need to ensure four essentials, the seed, moisture, warmth, and the time.

There are three different methods of growing sprouts in your garden or home. You may like to use a commercial sprouter. Most of the garden stores and nurseries do have different types of commercial sprouters and you may choose the one you like most.
You can use good quality, suitably shaped jars for growing sprouts. You can sow the seeds in a suitable seed- tray also.
There is a thumb-rule applicable in growing sprouts.”The smaller the seed, the greater the increase in volume as it germinates”. For instance, just a teaspoon of mung beans seeds will become more than a cupful of sprouts when grown fully. One of the better ways to facilitate more sprouting is to add little warm water and let the seeds soak it for almost eight hours. It will start the process of germination very fast.
While preparing for planting sprouts seeds you should take care of some important aspects. Leaving seeds for an overnight will result in to good germination. You may also observe certain degrees of discoloration in the seeds. It is primarily because of leaching effect. Rinsing the seeds properly with fresh water before sprouting is essential. Then put these seeds in a jar. Now put a fly screen at the top of the jar and put a rubber band around .This arrangement will help the water and air to move comfortably.
If you intend to use a drainer by the window then ensure the availability of sufficient indirect sunlight. An angle of 45° would better for placement as it would help the water drain perfectly. Never let the water remain otherwise it will be a breeding ground for bacteria.
You do not require much maintenance of sprouts .However, rinsing them three times a day is extremely essential. You should do so by filling the jar with water and, flush it, and then let them drain.
Best time to eat the sprouts is when their first pair of seed leaves is out. Waiting for any more time would make the sprouts fibrous and it may not taste that good. Growing sprouts need almost no space in your garden or home. A couple of jars at the window and that are all. Practically no gardening skills are required for growing sprouts and even kids can do it .And this is how you take care of the health of your family as well.
