Biggest Tree
Questions & Answers (Q&A)
Biggest TreeTrees, plants, flowers, weeds, cactus, and other objects have always been parts of everyone’s imagination and it is a very common curiosity as which particular tree is the biggest or the oldest. Here is a brief account of some of the interesting information pertaining to the plant world.

The Biggest Tree

The tallest tree of the world is just another cone-bearing tree native to California. It is the “Sequoia Sempervirens”, the coast redwood. The tree stands with a height of about 367 feet, almost 112 meters. This height counts for 62 feet more than the height of the statue of liberty. Nearest rivals of the coast redwood tree is the “Australian Mountain Ash”, the “Eucalyptus Regnans”.

Botanists across the world have been engaged in a never ending debate on the tallest and biggest tree issue for many years now. There are no clear cut undoubted records available in this perspective.

The claims of the “Eucalyptus Regnans” and the “Pseudotsuga Menziesii ” attaining a height of more than 400 feet have never been substantiated with sufficient evidences. One of the references reveals that in the year 1872 a Eucalyptus Regnans tree measured as 18 feet in diameter and 436 feet in height. The measurement was taken when this tree fell because of a brush fire. If this measurement is considered correct then it can certainly be regarded as the biggest and tallest tree ever recorded.

Eucalyptus Regnans According to the official records available with the ‘International Society of Arboriculture’, the Eucalyptus Regnans at the Thorpdale, Australia measured as 374 feet in length. The measurement was taken with a theodolite in the year 1880.This tree was later cut down.

The presently living tallest redwood tree is about six feet less tall than this one. Similarly the currently living tallest Eucalyptus Regnans tree is almost 322 feet in height.

The Oldest Tree

Oldest TreeOldest trees on the earth have been reported from the areas of California, Utah, and Nevada in the United Sates. These are typical Bristlecone Pine trees. In the areas of eastern California White Mountains, some of the trees have been reported to be almost 4500 years old. Presently, the oldest living tree i.e. the Great Bristle Pine is almost 4700 years old. This tree has been given a name of “Methuselah”.

The Biggest Flower

Biggest FlowerTitle of the biggest flower of the world goes to “Rafflesia Arnoldii”. This huge flower blooms on a plant which is typically a mottled orange brown and white parasitic plant. When in full bloom this flower could be 35.8 inches in its width. Average weight of the “Rafflesia Arnoldii” flower could generally be up to 24.3 lbs. Thickness of each petal of this flower could be around 0.75 inches in thickness.

The Biggest Weed

Biggest WeedCaucasus is the home for big weeds and the biggest weed also exists in the same area. According to the available botanical records and evidences of measurements the biggest weed of the world is “Hogweed”. This weed also originated from the Caucasus. The giant hogweed could also attain a height of even up to 12 feet. Average length of its leaves could be around 35.5 inches long.

The Biggest Fungus

Biggest FungusBiggest and thickest fungus grows as a single living underground fungus.“Armillaria Ostoyae” is the name of this biggest fungus. It grows in colonial growth pattern. Amidst the dense forests of the Washington state in the United State the “Armillaria Ostoyae” has been found to be covering an area of approximately 1,500 acres. Determination of age of this fungus has revealed that it is somewhere in between 500 to 1,000 years.

The Biggest Cactus
Biggest CactusThe gigantic cactus “Saguaro” is undoubtedly the tallest cactus of the world. It bears a botanical name as “Cerus giganteus”or Carnegiea Gigantia”. The records refer to one of the tallest cactus of this species as the tallest one and it was reported from Maricopa Mountains in the Arizona, United States. First report of its occurrence was in the year 1988. Branches of this gigantic cactus reached up to a record height of 58 feet even.

The list of biggest, tallest, and oldest has many more such names. Botanical records contain several other references also.

Biggest Tree Question: 2

What do you see in your back yard? And are you happy there?

In my back yard I see lots of trees, big and small rocks ( my town used to be a granite quarry of some kind, farmers used to make rock walls to separate their territory from other farmers), leaves just starting to bud, the colors-many shades of green, fiddleheads, soon to be ferns, and an orange fox puppy! A fuzzy, playful orange fox puppy! And the amazing thing is though I do not hear that well anymore--I know I heard his mother calling--and he went to her, though I did not see her.I always considered myself a sea-shore type of person, though its exciting to visit the city and the forest and mountains. I have always felt out of place in my own back yard. What do you see in your back yard and are you happy there? Any comments welcome---creative, spiritual or basic. I promise I'll read every one. Thank you.

Answer: 1.
well, right now, all I see is dirt.............because I just tilled the entire field. But soon, it will be a vast vegatable garden, like it is every year. Cukes, tomatoes, peppers, artichokes, basil, pumpkins, (for Halloween, of course!), zucchini, might even try a few rows of corn again this year.

I got my usual rows of potatoes and onions......and will probably give the watermelons another shot this year.

For something completely different........my son noticed that we had no roses on our property........(and he's right, dag nabbit........he's a sharp one.......) so we just planted 3 rose bushes together to make him happy.

and several months ago, construction workers plowed over my Lilac bush in their clumsiness.......but I salvaged it, had to move it..........replanted it, and I am very proud to report that it is alive and well, and that fills me with great pride, that I bought my favorite lilac bush back from the dead.

It's a nice back yard......looking better now with the roses and lilacs, and in a few months, it will be a regular vegetable store out there. (and that's on top of the fruit trees. )

But all things considered......I'd still rather be in New York.
Answer: 2.
I love my backyard. Its not as wonderful as the beautiful yard i had when living in california, but for an area in the plains, my yard is perfect.
I look to the south and find grape vines, to the west is a wall of lilac, the north has a variety of evergreen and the east has my herbal garden.
i love the colors, the brightness, and the energy i feel in my yard.
Answer: 3.
well right now I'm not overly happy with it. I can see the neighbors house, which is up for sale. I do like seeing his dogs when they're out in the pen. I'm working on making it someplace I want to be. I'm planting a white garden and I'm going to start a large cut flower garden next year. I'm just going to plant, plant, plant and hope that works. Now the front and side yards, I love. I actually have more privacy there.
Answer: 4.
My Back yard is small and is a combination of my efforts to landscape and change it and the efforts of two younger children and two large dogs to destroy it. But Then I Love a challenge, my kids and my dogs
Answer: 5.
Well... I have a kinda small backyard. I have a dog run, and then a steep, bare hill not too far away from that. Not pretty. Planning to change that ( a little) this Spring.

Happy there? No... =/ Maybe soon? =)
Answer: 6.
my backyard looks like a jungle (seriously), i need to get it sorted
Answer: 7.
It's my church. RScott
Answer: 8.
My backyard is my sanctuary ,I have coffee there on warm sunny mornings ,my dogs live there and greet me with much love, we have family and friends for Barbecues ,I have tried to landscape the yard so that it is aesthetically pleasing ,we have native Kookaburras ,Magpies,Rosella's and King Parrots visit and shelter in the trees ,we have the occasional Blue tongue lizard and more often Skinks come to visit ,not so pleasant is we also get occasionally Bush rats that come from the creek behind us and one or two Red Belly Black Snakes which my Aussie terrier dog Bella soon chases away ,I also love when I hang out some lovely white fresh sheets and they flap in the sun ,I could go on forever as it is one of my favourite places to be.
Thanks for asking.

How big do green tea plants get?

I read from some sources that they get to be two meters high or bigger, but I cant find any pictures of them this big! All the pictures I have seen are of them at about 1 meter tall... Do you trim them to be small? Are these just young trees, and if so why do people pluck the leaves for tea at this size (in pictures)? Any info on this subject?

Answer: 1.
Tea is from Camillia sinensis, which is also grown for its flowers. They are a zone 9 plant, woody. A tea plantation will pick the young leaves several times per year, and you can harvest from very young plants.

how to grow grass trees?

hi i have 2 grass trees in big pots and they have been there for 2 years and they stay alive but do not grow they are in good soil and the tempreture can get from 10celcius to 40celcuis and one of them is in a shady position and the other one is in a sunny position and do you have any pointers to make them grow faster because they have not grown one bit here

Answer: 1.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthorrhoe...
found some info a wikipedia.

These trees are very slow growing. I mean really slow. it may take years to see any significant growth on them.

I suggest finding out more about them from the library or local extension office. this will help you determine the optimum planting conditions for them. good luck
Answer: 2.
You say good soil but would you still say that if you were a grass tree? I haven't really ever heard of a grass tree but do they require a special soil ph level? Also the pots may not actually be big enough. Some plants need lots of space for the root system.

Seriously Ill send you some of my cats turds. It works wonders in my garden. Smells great too. Ha ha ha ha ha.
No really I think maybe miracle grow.
Answer: 4.
First buy some miracle grow. Then fart and whala u got grass trees

Biggest Tree Question: 5

how can you grow your own avocado?

also How big do the avocado trees get?

Answer: 1.
I think you could just plant an avacado in your garden or yard. It might be a little hard though. I am not sure ho big avacado trees get but I think they get pretty big.
Answer: 2.
The last thing you want to do is grow an avocado from a seed. You have no idea who the parent tree is so you don't know what kind of fruit you will have. Many people who do this get trees that produce no fruit at all or only fruit every few years. Your better off getting a Haas, Fuerte, etc. from a nursery which has been grafted so you know its heritage and are almost guarranteed to to get good fruit every year.
Answer: 3.
I tried the toothpic method and no results, then tried in moist soil and within 2 weeks it had sprouted.I have seeds that are not dead but ive been waiting months for the sprouts, was in the dominican few weeks back and saw avacado trees over 80ft.Taller than i thought they could get!!!!
Answer: 4.
I dont know how big they get but you can peel one stick toothpicks in on 3 or 4 sides to keep in partially out of the water (in a jar)and let it form roots and stems then transplant it
